Another great live event!  It had a lighter attendance than usual, which turned out to be a good thing.  My fabulous panel from Jive, The Clyde Otis Music Group and Music Supervision Central listened to much more of each song than what usually happens.  The caliber of writing was so high that they were enjoying the listening experience!  And, they each took a good number of  songs which always keeps the energy in the room high.

It’s interesting how some panels work.  For anyone who hasn’t seen one of my events, each guest rings a little bell when they have heard enough of the song to know whether it’s a Keeper or not.  It’s not meant as any sort of dis or “Gong Show” device, it’s just that the first couple of months I had to read the body language and was more wrong than right about when they had heard enough.  Anyway, sometimes no one wants to be first to ring the bell so they all hold back, and hold back…and hold back.  I think that’s what happened last night.  But since we had a light turnout, it was fine — time enough to get everyone’s song played.

Someone told me that one of the songwriters drove up from Virginia!  And that he was planning to drive back the same day.  I actually get nervous when I hear that.  I would hate for anyone to make such a long trip and then not be a Keeper.  Since I don’t know who the person is, I’m just going to hope he was definitely one of the Keepers last night.

With regard to my pet peeve, the lyric sheet, or lack thereof, I’m happy to say we only had one song submitted without one, which is wonderful.  Even more so considering that my panelist from Jive came up to me at the end of the event with two lyric sheets in his hand.  He had passed on the songs, but wanted to reach out to both of the writers to get more material.  He asked for their contact info (which, btw, should really have been on the sheet, but I won’t quibble!).   Good Luck to both of them.

Anyway, I’ll get down off my soap box (at least for now!) and congratulate all the wonderful songwriters who attended last night.  I’ll hope that I’ll be able to post a bunch of success stories from this group.  And please remember, that a Pass one month can be a Keeper with all three panelists the next month (and often is!).

Until next time, may every song you write be a smash!
