FAQs

What should I bring with me?
You need three copies of your lyric sheet, one for each panelist, and three copies of your CD, one to pitch, and two to have ready in case more than one panelist wishes to take the song back with them.

If I pay an additional $20, may I pitch another song?
No, it’s only one song per each attendee.

Do I have to be there in person?
Yes.  You may send someone to stand in, or represent you, but they must attend in person.

May I have more than one song on the CD?
Yes, in fact it’s a good idea since, if it’s a Keeper it will give you additional opportunities to impress the panelist who took it with them.

May I bring along my husband/wife/friend?
They certainly may come with you, but they will be charged the Entry Fee as they will be taking a seat away from a songwriter.

Do the songs need to be fully produced, or “radio ready?”
It depends on what your pitch goals are.  Music Supervisors and Music Production Libraries who are looking for songs for Film, TV and Advertising projects, need them “radio ready” to simply drop into a placement.  Labels and music publishers are looking for the song and/or the songwriting talent and don’t require a fully produced demo.  However, the more professional the production, the easier it is for them to hear it.

What about sampling?
Bad idea almost all the way around.  Music Supervisors are under the gun to place songs which have no clearance issues and each sample has to be cleared separately.  A&R executives see it as being unoriginal so it’s a lose/lose on all fronts.

You say it’s “anonymous,” should I have contact information on the CD?
Yes, not only on the CD, but the lyric sheet as well.  You don’t want anyone to have to work hard to get in touch with you.  The anonymity is so that no one is embarrassed in front of the group in case it’s a Pass.

What happens if I’m a Keeper?
A Keeper means that the panelist is interested enough to take a copy back for another listen.  If they feel they will be able to forward the song and/or the songwriter in any way, they will be in touch directly.  Unfortunately, being a Keeper is not a guarantee that a deal will happen.  And, even when it does, it may take months to come about.

May I get my CD back?
Yes, if you’re not a Keeper and would like to take back your CD, you will be able to do so at the end of the event.
